Matthew Berka (b. Australia) is an artist filmmaker and composer whose work crosses the boundaries of the film-essay, docufiction, and the film-poem. Often constructed through the connective tissue of disparate sounds and images, the films find links through association and feeling. Defying a materialist view of the world they offer a speculative vision of matter. Previous screenings and exhibitions include Onion City Experimental Film Festival, Millennium Film Workshop, NY Close-Up Cinema (London), Archivio Nazionale del Film di Famiglia (Bologna), Antimatter [media art], CA, Mackintosh Lane, UK and ZÉRUÌ, UK. Berka also works as a Time-based media conservator at Tate and contributes to the programming of Mackintosh Lane, an artist-run gallery in East London.
